Valentine’s Day is one of the busiest days of the foodservice calendar with 60% of consumers dining out with their sweetheart last year1. Restaurants and pubs must plan ahead to make the most of this occasion in order to take advantage of the opportunity to generate sales.

With consumers eating out of home less and saving their money for special occasions, wraps are ideal for chefs looking to design a menu for couples to share, as platters can be put together using a variety of ingredients and condiments to suit every outlet.  Small plates and sharing dishes are a fantastic way of making eating out an interactive and fun experience.

Designing ‘Build Your Own’ wrap boards is a great way to encourage consumers to try new flavours, showcasing your culinary skills and tempting them to return. For example, why not try serving a Greek Style sharing board with spicy lamb koftas and toasted tortilla wraps with bowls of honey yoghurt, tzatziki, hummus and olives. A key advantage of sharing plates is that they can be integrated into a variety of meal deals, essential for tempting consumers out of home this Valentine’s Day. The wider variety of food consumers are able to taste and enjoy, the more likely they are to return in the future, so to make your offering extra special why not try presenting it on red or heart-shape themed boards, plates and bowls.

In order to make the most of Valentine’s Day, promote your offering in advance by using boards and table talkers, which are a great way of communicating a specific message to customers. If your outlet sends out regular newsletters and has a substantial customer database, it would be a good idea to include the Valentine’s Day Menu as part of this to target regulars. Tempt new customers by posting any offers on your website and social media, as well as displaying menu boards outside the premises if possible.
